Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus ssp macrochele Synonyms- Echinocactus macrochele, Turbinicarpus macrochele, Strombocactus macrochele, Toumeya macrochele, Turbinicarpus schmiedickeanus ssp macrochele, Neolloydia schmiedickeanus v macrochele, Pediocactus schmiedickeanus v macrochele. Description- Body- Solitary globular depressed, 30mm high 30-40mm wide grey-greenish blue becoming reddish in winter. Root- Taproot. Tubercles- Rounded almost flat poorly developed. Spines- Radials- 3-4 papery ivory-grey, 30mm long. Centrals- None. Flowers- Apical funnel shaped ivory with brown midstripe 25mm wide. Fruits- Brown. Distribution- Found in the municipalities of Matehuala and Doctor Arroyo bordering the states of Nuevo Leon and San Luis Potosi (Mexico). Altitude 1600-1800m. Notes- This species is easy to cultivate but care with watering and full sun to develop the blue-grey body colour. |
