Turbinicarpus viereckii ssp viereckii Synonyms- Echinocactus viereckii, Thelocactus viereckii, Rapicactus subterraneus, Gymnocactus viereckii, Neolloydia viereckii, Pediocactus subterraneus. Description- Body- Usually clustering, globular 30-45mm wide green. Root- Swollen bundled. Tubercles- Rhomboidal conical. Spines- Radials- 17-22 rigid white translucent 5-8mm long. Centrals- 4-6 rigid white with black tip 30-40mm long. Flowers- Pink-magenta with magenta midstripe 30mm wide. Fruits- Greenish-brown. Distribution- In the municipalities of Jaumave in the state of Tamaulipas (Mexico). Altitude 750-850m. Notes- Fairly easy species to cultivate. Requires strong sun and careful watering to keep plant compact and maintain strong spines. |
