Turbinicarpus zaragosae Synonyms- Gymnocactus subterraneus v zaragosae, Neolloydia subterraneus v zaragosae, Turbinicarpus subterraneus v zaragosae. Description- Body- Solitary, globular to cylindrical, 150mm high 50mm wide greenish-blue. Root- Semi-taproot. Tubercles- Pyramidal, conical. Spines- Radials- 21-25 bent slightly backwards, glassy white with brown tip 3-6mm long. Centrals- 2, brownish black turning grey with age, 15-20mm long. Flowers- Slender funnel form, pale yellow to violet 18-20mm long, 15mm wide. Fruits- Greenish-brown small. Distribution- Found in the municipalities of Zaragosae in the state of Nuevo Leon (Mexico). Altitude 1500-1700m Notes- This species is easy to cultivate fast growing. Requires full sun and careful watering to keep plant compact and low. Will benefit from adding up to 30% Gypsum to the potting mix. |
