Turbinicarpus saueri Synonyms- Echinocactus saueri, Thelocactus saueri, Gymnocactus saueri, Neolloydia saueri, Pediocactus saueri. Description- Body- Usually solitary, globular depressed, 30-50mm high 40-60mm wide grey-green to blue-green with woolly top.. Root- Semi-taproot. Tubercles- Angular rounded 2-5mm high. Spines- Radials- 7-14 straight, white darkening with age 5-15mm long. Centrals- 1-3, greyish black, erect curving slightly upwards, 10-14mm long. Flowers- White with reddish midstripe 15-20mm long, 30-50mm wide. Fruits- Whitish-brown round to elongated 4-7mm long 3-5mm wide. Distribution- Found in the municipalities of Jaumave in the state of Tamaulipas (Mexico). Notes- This species is easy to cultivate when given full sun and careful watering. |
